After a difficult incident with a patient or visitor

If a patient or visitor has just been aggressive, abusive or frightening, start here.

Right now

  1. Tell someone: a colleague, your manager, whoever’s nearest.
  2. Write down what happened while it’s fresh, in case you need it later.
  3. Take a proper break before going back to the desk, if you can.

Who to tell at your practice

Tell your practice manager, or the most senior colleague available. If your practice has its own incident-reporting process, follow that too.
